Falafel is a deep-fried ball, made from ground Garbanzo Beans or Fava Beans. Falafel is usually served in a pita, which acts as a pocket, or wrapped in a flatbread known as lafa. The falafel balls are topped with salads, pickled vegetables, hot sauce, and drizzled with tahini-based sauces. Falafel balls may also be eaten alone as a snack or served as part of a meze.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Chickpeas or Garbanzo Beans
- Oil for frying
- 1 large Onion, chopped
- 3 tablespoons of fresh Parsley, chopped
- 2 cloves of Garlic, chopped
- 1 teaspoon Cumin
- 1 teaspoon Coriander
- 2 tablespoons Flour
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Preparation
- Place one cup of canned chickpeas in pan with fresh water, and bring to a boil. Boil for five minutes more, then let simmer on low for about an hour.
- Drain water and allow to cool chickpeas.
Falafel Recipe
- Make a thick paste of Chickpeas, Garlic, Onion, Coriander, Cumin, Salt, Pepper and flour in a food processor.
- Now make small Balls of this mixture.
- Fry in oil until golden brown.
Serve hot with Tahini Sauce or Hummus.
